1994 Nissan Avenir Stationwagon
Written by: C Blackmore.
This was a random find. We were at the drags one night, filming Daves wicked 13 second Toyota Echo, when this thing appeared on the strip. I should explain that this particular shape of Nissan is a special thing for me, my first car was 1.4L petrol Nissan Sentra (N14) - from the front end, it looked exactly the same as this Avenir wagon.
In fact this Avenir wagon was also released as the Nissan AD, Nissan Sentra and Nissan Wingroad. Known as the ‘Y10’ model, the least common version was released with a boring CD20 non turbo 2.0L diesel engine. Knowing this, Gonzalo was on the hunt for a small diesel Nissan. He had the turbo version of a CD20 handy thanks to a friends Nissan Serena which had been TD27 swapped.
Seeing this thing hold it’s own at the drags was impressive, we actually had a quick chat to Gonzalo whilst there but never exchanged details. After a facebook market place discovery, I managed to get in touch with him and the filming date was sorted.
It was about 2 weeks from seeing a random guy at the drag strip to filming him on a overcast day in the North Island of New Zealand.
Sad news for those wanting to acquire this machine for themselves though. Since filming, this wagon has sold! Good luck to the new owner. I, for one; am very jealous!
