DAIHATSU MIRA KEI CAR
Written by: C Blackmore.
I've known Andrew since 2016 and his vehicle history has been rather eclectic. One might say he's a sucker for punishment, others would recognise his never say die attitude and respect for lesser loved vehicles in the world.
Traditionally Andrew liked things that were unreliable and/or cheap and/or different. Thankfully this Daihatsu covers two of those requirements.
This is actually his second Daihatsu Mira except the original one was a Charade, 1.0 manual. It had 4 doors and while it looked cool it was a bit beaten up around the edges and only intended to be used as a daily whilst his trusty Nissan D21 was getting it’s gearbox rebuilt.
Not long after, Andrew discovered the same shape was sold in Malaysia as a Perodua Viva, which meant a large array of aftermarket parts were on offer for this chassis shape.
After a quick internet stalk, Andrew discovered a Malaysian outfit on Facebook that said they were happy to send a set of coil over suspension to New Zealand. A few messages and one bank transfer later; the waiting began.
Arriving quicker than most domestic parcels, the shocks turned up and were thrown into the old 4 door Charade, which lasted a few more weeks before unceremoniously being written off in a nose to tail accident.
Not one to let a bad situation get him down, Andrew quickly found this 2 door, 660cc version, acquired it and set about giving it the slam treatment.

Thanks Andrew!
