1999 Honda Integra Type R
Written by: C Blackmore.
Growing up as a kid of the ‘90s, the sound of a VTEC Honda just a normal part of life. New Zealand was Japans dumping ground for used JDM vehicles and we got an excessive amount of nice cars in impeccable shape. But as the youth of the world are prone to do, many of these fine examples got “modified”, raced and/or wrapped around curbs/street lights/trees.
Andrew’s Honda Integra has been known to me for a few years now, but only through the occasional photo on the internet. When I reached out to him about creating a video on the vehicle; Andrew was happy to oblige and we set a time for me to check out this VTEC powered machine in person.
This particular example was produced in 1999 but is known as the 98 Spec, visually different from the earlier shape; Honda’s Integra Type R came out in both a 2 door coupe and a 4 door sedan. Andrew bid on this specific car in a Japanese auction after seeing only two pictures and an auction ranking, placed and bid and went to work for the day.
Back in 2007, Smart phones weren’t really a thing and it wasn’t until Andrew returned home from work he checked his emails to find the bid was successful and the DB8 Type R would soon be on it’s way to New Zealand.
In his 15 years of ownership the sedan has seen a few different variations from stock, to track spec, stance spec and finally heading more towards a stock look again recently.
I could sit here and write all day about this Honda, but I think Andrew has summed it up a lot better than I ever could - so check out the video and see for yourself.
Turn it up - the sound is so good!
